Jabeur says playing with Serena Williams gives him confidence
MOSCOW, June 27 – RIA Novosti. Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur said that playing with American Serena Williams gave her confidence and taught her to be a leader on the court.
On Monday, world number 2 Jabeur defeated Sweden’s Mirjam Björklund in the first-round match at Wimbledon. Previously at Roland Garros, she lost in the first round to Magda Lynette of Poland.
In June, Williams and Jabeur reached the doubles semi-finals of the Eastbourne turf tournament and withdrew from the competition due to an injury to the Tunisian representative.
The Wimbledon tournament, held on grass courts, will end on July 10. In April, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) did not allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to participate in the tournament due to the situation in Ukraine. By contrast, in May, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) decided not to award ranking points to competitors.
