Jabeur beat Mertens to reach quarterfinals of Wimbledon
MOSCOW, July 3 – RIA Novosti. Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur defeated Belgian Elise Mertens in the fourth round match at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season.
The match ended with a score of 7:6 (11:9), 6:4 in favor of the world’s second racket, Zhaber, finishing the tournament under the third point. Tennis players spent 1 hour and 46 minutes on the court. Mertens had the 24th seed.
Jabeur repeated his best Grand Slam result ever, having previously played the quarterfinals at the 2020 Australian Open and last year’s Wimbledon. The next opponent of the Tunisian representative will be Maria Bouzkova from the Czech Republic.
Held on grass courts, Wimbledon will end on July 10. In April, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) did not allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to participate in the tournament due to the situation in Ukraine. By contrast, in May, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) decided not to award ranking points to competitors.
