Valuev: Young age is no excuse if doping is found in Valieva’s blood
MOSCOW, July 14 – RIA Novosti, Oleg Bogatov. Russian State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev said in an interview with RIA Novosti that if Beijing Olympic champion Kamila Valieva is proven to have used doping, the young age of the figure skater will not be the basis for acquittal.
As part of the Russian national team in February, Valieva became the winner of the team tournament of the Olympics. However, the award ceremony was not held. It was learned that Valieva’s doping test dated December 25, 2021 was positive and that the banned drug trimetazidine was found in her blood. However, the International Olympic Committee allowed the athlete to participate in individual competitions, where Valieva took fourth place. The final verdict in the athlete’s case has yet to be announced.
The interlocutor of the agency believes that the political factor will affect Valieva’s case. “If there is at least one thousandth of a banned substance in the body, then everything will be written in the Western media in such a way that no one will doubt that this drug is eaten in kilograms. And somewhere they will write the little, little truth. Just like when they found traces of meldonium in our boxer Sasha Povetkin. ” said.
