MOSCOW, July 14 – RIA Novosti, Oleg Bogatov. In an interview with RIA Novosti, State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev said that Ukrainian WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk once joined the ranks of territorial defense fighters because he could not make any other decision under the circumstances.
Usyk joined the territorial defense ranks in February in connection with the events in Ukraine. Later, the athlete left the country to prepare for the fight with Briton Anthony Joshua, which will be held on 20 August in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). In September 2021, Usyk defeated Joshua unanimously to get three world championship belts from his opponent. Valuev said that after the fight he supported Usyk and congratulated the native of Simferopol on his victory.
