French duo Aurelien Barre-Pintry, Michael Cheryl and German Maximilian Walshed became the latest to withdraw from the Tour de France after it was confirmed they tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Team AG2R today announced that Barre-Pintry and Sherrill withdrew ahead of the sixteenth stage of the Tour de France, while Cofidis rider Valshed left.
And the Union Cycliste Internationale announced yesterday (Monday) that tests showed that two more cyclists were infected with the corona virus during Tour de France competitions.
The drivers were determined to have been injured during mandatory testing for the teams yesterday, a day off from competition.
The FIA has not named the two drivers, just to clarify that they are not at the top of the overall standings, before the names of the injured were announced today, with German Walschid joining them.
According to the rules in force at this year’s edition of the race, in relation to corona infection, infected runners can continue to participate in the absence of symptoms, while other preventive measures, including isolation, are applied.
Under current rules, Rafal Majka of Poland and Bob Engels of Luxembourg were able to continue in the race despite the infection, but other drivers had to withdraw.
