The Swedish national team defeated the Austrian team in the junior ice hockey world championship match.
MOSCOW, August 12 – RIA Novosti. The Swedish ice hockey team defeated the Austrian team in the group stage match of the World Junior Championships (Under 20) held in Edmonton, Canada.
Group B match ended with a score of 6:0 in favor of Swedish hockey players. Emile Andre (35th and 36th minutes) also threw a splint, Simon Edvinsson (13), Isak Rosen (21), Fabian Lysell (50) and Theodor Niederbach (60).
The Swedish national team won their second victory in the tournament, previously beating Switzerland with a score of 3:2. The Austrians suffered a second defeat in their second match in the current championship.
At the end of December 2021, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) suspended the junior world championships held in Red Deer and Edmonton, Canada, due to the spread of COVID-19 among tournament participants. The tournament was later postponed to August 2022.
In March, the IIHF announced the suspension of the national teams of Russia and Belarus from all international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine. The place of the Russian national team in the youth world championship was taken by the Latvian team.
