Mantle’s baseball card comes under the hammer for a record $12.6 million
MOSCOW, August 29 – RIA Novosti. According to the official website of the Heritage Auctions auction house, a collectible card by American baseball player Mickey Mantle sold for $12.6 million, making it the most valuable sports collectible ever sold at auction.
A seven-time World Series winner with the New York Yankees aired in 1952. The man who auctioned the card, Anthony Giordano, bought it for $50,000 in 1991.
The previous record price for a sports product was set at Sotheby’s in May 2022. Then, for $ 9.3 million, the jersey of the world football champion of the Argentina national team Diego Maradona went under the hammer, in which he threw the ball with his hand against England in the quarter-finals of the 1986 World Cup. Later, with the filing of Mardona, this target was given the name “Hand of God”.
