Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol scored an impressive victory over Saul Canelo Alvarez.

MOSCOW, May 8 – RIA Novosti. The sensational victory of Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol over the Mexican Saul Alvarez in the fight for the WBA Super light heavyweight title did not leave indifferent both fans and other representatives of this sport.

The reigning IBF, IBO and WBA Super middleweight champion, Alvarez’s 2017 and 2018 rival, Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin, was one of the first to congratulate the Russians on their victory.

“Congratulations, Dmitry! It was solid. Keep up the good work!” Golovkin wrote on Twitter.

Recall that Bivol inflicted his second defeat in Alvarez’s career and his first in nine years (Mexico’s previous culprit was Floyd Mayweather) younger). In 2017, the fight between Golovkin and Alvarez ended in a draw, a year later they won by decision of North America. Meanwhile, Mayweather made $42,500 by betting on Bivol to win.

Eddie Hearn, head of the promotional company Matchroom, which organized the fight, was satisfied with the performance of the Russians, despite his long-standing desire to organize the final fight of the Alvarez-Golovkin trilogy.

“It was an excellent fight in terms of punching technique. I think Bivol is stronger. I think Canelo (Nickname for a Mexican ed.) looked a little lethargic, wasn’t he tired? I think Bivol showed himself great. “The result is incredibly shocking, it belongs to Bivol tonight.”

Note that in the comments after the fight, Bivol jokingly apologized to Hearn for disrupting the trilogy. By the way, on the official Twitter of Matchroom Boxing, a poll about the winner was held among the fans, and the vast majority (79%) voted for the Russian boxer. However, before the fight began, fans in the arena in Las Vegas booed Bivol, who was not allowed to perform with the Russian flag.

Former IBF, WBO and WBA Super light heavyweight champion Russian Sergey Kovalev reacted emotionally to his compatriot’s success.

“Here it is, victory! Diman is handsome. If you see a redhead, kill him,” said Kovalev, regarding the outcome of the war on his social networks.

The former absolute world champion in light heavyweight Russian boxer Kostya Tszyu gave a prediction for a possible revenge.

“Dmitry showed that he is great today. I am very happy for him. But Alvarez is not in vain considered the best number to count boxer (quick recovery – approx. ed.). Will try something Mexican next time. I hope that right now Dmitry finds something new. And if this fight happens, Bivol will win the rematch, ”says Tszyu of the Championship portal.

Famous trainer Teddy Atlas, who examined the referee’s notes after the fight, drew attention to some biases in the results.

“They wanted to rob Bivol because, according to the judges’ notes, he only won by a small margin, but they failed to do so. Alvarez was not close to victory. Bivol delivered all the major blows. No arguments, no questions,” he wrote on his social networks.

Bivol, 31, is an undefeated boxer and his victory over Canelo marked the 20th anniversary of his career. Defended the WBA Super title.
