Tarpischev explained the Ukrainian Kostyuk’s refusal to shake hands with Azarenka with the phrase “everything is relative”.
KAZAN, September 2 – RIA Novosti, Vadim Kuznetsov. Shamil Tarpishchev, President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF), told RIA Novosti that he does not see anything offensive in Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk’s decision not to shake hands with Belarusian Victoria Azarenka after the US Open.
Azarenka defeated Kostyuk in two sets, but after the match, the athletes did not shake hands, but exchanged racket touches.
At the end of August, before the US Open, Azarenka was kicked off the list of participants in a charity tournament held in the United States to support Ukraine. Ukrainian tennis players, including Kostyuk, opposed her participation.
