Musk: ‘pardon’ for suspended Twitter accounts

-

Donald Trump first, now other previously blocked people should be allowed to return: Twitter boss Elon Musk announced the complete release of blocked accounts.

Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, announced plans to reactivate accounts banned from the text messaging service next week. It had previously voted on whether to issue a “general amnesty” for accounts that have been blocked, provided users do not violate the law or spread spam messages.

Most of the users who participated spoke in favor of reactivation. “People have spoken. Amnesty begins next week,” Musk tweeted on Thursday evening.

Musk: 72 percent of votes to unlock

Musk said 72.4 percent of the more than 3.1 million survey respondents said Twitter should allow banned accounts. According to the latest information, the service has more than 230 million daily active users.

Polls on Twitter are open to all users and can be used by fake accounts and bots.

Musk recently unlocked Trump’s account

Musk announced in late October that he would form a council on how to deal with controversial content before his Twitter accounts were reactivated. Last week, after a user survey, the tech billionaire unlocked the account of former US President Donald Trump.

Trump has been banned from Twitter since January 2021. He expressed sympathy for his supporters, who swept his seat in the US Parliament on January 6. Offensive tweets from January 6 are not in the unlocked profile. Trump’s refuted allegations about the presidential election, which was allegedly stolen from him by Joe Biden, continue to come with exemplary stories.

Twitter ad revenue plummets

Musk bought Twitter for about $44 billion at the end of October. Since the takeover, the company has struggled, among other things, with the reluctance of major advertising clients. Recently, ad revenue was about 90 percent of revenue.

A sweeping amnesty for suspended accounts could alert officials who have closely watched Musk’s handling of hate speech since he bought the influential online network.
