Post: Musk: Unsubscribed Twitter restrictions

Categories

Musk is serious: The Twitter boss is announcing that access to unsubscribed users will soon be limited. This is how the payment model should be introduced.

Twitter owner Elon Musk is taking the next step in getting users to subscribe. From April 15, only tweets from paid subscription customers will appear in the “For you” area, where contributions from software will be selected.

Musk argued Tuesday night that this is the only realistic way to defend yourself against automated bot accounts.

The move could reduce the reach of tweets from users who don’t have an $8 per month subscription. However, it is not known how many Twitter users allow the algorithm to display posts in chronological order.

Twitter Polls: “Voice of the People” – for those who pay

After April 15, only paying subscribers will be able to participate in Twitter surveys. Musk had asked Twitter to vote on whether to sell more shares in Tesla, the electric car maker he manages, or to unblock former President Donald Trump’s account. He spoke of the “voice of the people”.

Musk took over the management of the social media group only in November:

In a survey that Musk started last year, users also argued that he gave up on his Twitter post. He promised to do the same – but later said that the search for the boss should last until the end of this year.

Old Twitter verifications will disappear

Musk talks about “verified accounts” where functions should be separated. But the famous verification mark on Twitter will soon mean something different: Before it was taken over by Musk, Twitter used to hand out blue symbols to celebrities, politicians or journalists after checking their personal data.

It showed that the account actually belonged to a specific person or company. As Musk recently announced, these previously assigned ticks will be gone from April 1st.

Instead, only customers of the “Twitter Blue” subscription offer should be allowed to have the same symbols on their accounts as before.

After the chaos with fake accounts when the first payment checkmarks were issued in November, there are greater hurdles to that. For example, an account must be at least 90 days old and have not changed their profile photo recently. However, personal identification is still not provided.

In promoting the checkmark, Musk initially argued that authentication by payment services and app platforms would provide adequate protection against abuse of the new system.

Musk: Twitter is selling Tesla shares to avoid bankruptcy

However, that hasn’t stopped many users from creating fake celebrity and corporate accounts with verification marks. After the chaos, Twitter suspended the subscription feature for a few weeks until new restrictions were introduced.

It wants to focus more on subscription revenues after the drop in ad revenue. There are no business figures since the acquisition, but Musk said he had to sell his Tesla shares to save Twitter from bankruptcy.
