Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan: The death toll in the conflict with Tajikistan rose to 59
BISHKEK, 18 September – RIA Novosti. Press service of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reported that the number of Kyrgyz citizens killed in clashes with Tajikistan increased to 59.
The report said, “The bodies of 13 people were delivered to health institutions in the Batken region. The total number of dead reached 59.”
According to the ministry, the number of victims rose to 144.
Massive clashes broke out on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on Friday morning. The parties accused each other of bombing. Fierce clashes between the armies of the two countries lasted all day, almost along the entire perimeter of the border. The ceasefire was only achieved until the evening. On Saturday morning, intermittent fighting resumed. The parties accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement. Shooting only stopped on Saturday evening.
Tajikistan announced 35 dead and 30 injured.
