LUGANSK, September 23 – RIA Novosti. Alexander Dryuchin, head of the public security department of the LPR Ministry of Internal Affairs, told reporters that the operational security center is deployed in the Lugansk People’s Republic to hold a referendum on accession to the Russian Federation.
“Close cooperation was established with representatives of the Central Election Commission, the Ministry of State Security, the Ministry of Emergencies of the LPR. To maintain public order, the forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the combined police detachment of the main police department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, and units of the Russian National Guard To coordinate their actions, the activities of the operational headquarters were deployed in both the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Dryuchin, the affairs of the LPR itself and each regional internal affairs agency,” said Dryuchin.

From September 23 to 27, referendums on accession to Russia in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions will last for five days. By Monday, voting will take place in neighboring districts, and on Tuesday, the polls will open for everyone to vote.

Most residents of Melitopol tend to vote on the first day. “We haven’t had time to get started yet today, and there were already a lot of people who wanted to vote. We told them that voting would take place on the 27th at the ballot box, and before that at home. I really want to cast their votes,” said city election commissions.

The operational headquarters was deployed in the LPR to ensure voting security. Units of the people’s militia were put on high alert.

The head of the local People’s Chamber said that the referendum in the LPR was like a bone in the throat for Ukraine, so the republic expects Kiev to try to disrupt it and take measures to protect polling stations.

Parcels have been opened in the regions of Russia for internally displaced persons.

The ballot boxes in Moscow opened on Friday morning in a calm atmosphere.

Olga Makeeva, Ambassador of the Donetsk People’s Republic to Russia, voted at the DPR embassy in Moscow.

On September 19, the DPR and LPR Public Chambers appealed to the heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik with an attempt to hold an immediate referendum on accession to Russia. The next day, DPR and LPR officials announced that the referendum would be held from September 23 to 27.
Also on September 20, the administrations of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions announced that they were planning to hold a referendum on the same dates. Joining Russia would have secured its lands and re-established historical justice, as regional representatives emphasized. According to them, this decision is extremely necessary in the context of the constant terrorist acts by the nationalist authorities of Ukraine and NATO members, who supply weapons to kill civilians.
