The funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has come to an end in the Japanese capital.

TOKYO, September 27 – RIA Novosti. The state funeral for former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe concluded at the Nippon Budokan martial arts hall in Tokyo.

The event was broadcast by central Japanese TV channels.

The car with Abe’s ashes left his Tokyo home at 1:25 p.m. local time (07:25 Moscow time) and arrived at the Nippon Budokan martial arts hall half an hour later. Akie Abe, the widow of the politician dressed in a mourning kimono, was greeted by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Japanese Cabinet Secretary General Hirokazu Matsuno, and former Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, among other representatives of the Japanese government. Who is Shinzo Abe’s younger brother?

At that moment, when the ashes were brought into the hall, the first of 19 empty volleys of the artillery crew of the self-defense forces was fired. A minute’s silence followed. In particular, farewell speeches were made by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and former head of the Japanese government Yoshihide Suga.

About 4,300 people attended Abe’s funeral, including 34 state leaders and 14 former heads of state, as well as representatives of the imperial family, including Crown Prince Akishino and his wife. Russia was represented by Mikhail Shvydkoi, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, and Mikhail Galuzin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Japan.

The ceremony lasted about four hours in total. In the end, the urn with the ashes of the deceased was removed from the altar and returned to the widow of the politician. A special convoy from the martial arts hall was accompanied by Prime Minister Kishida, former Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, and representatives of the Japanese government. As the car moved along with the ashes, the guard of honor fired three volleys into the air.

Security in Tokyo is provided by approximately 20,000 police officers, some from other districts. Major highways in central Tokyo are closed to traffic Monday through Wednesday – any time high-end foreign visitors are in the city.
