TOKYO, September 27 – RIA Novosti. Mikhail Shvydkoi, Special Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, and Mikhail Galuzin, Russian Ambassador to Japan, laid flowers on the altar to honor the memory of the late politician at the funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The event is broadcast by central Japanese TV channels.

The state funeral for Shinzo Abe is currently underway at the Nippon Budokan martial arts hall in Tokyo.

The car with the ashes of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe left his Tokyo home at 1:25 p.m. local time (07:25 Moscow time) and arrived at the Nippon Budokan martial arts hall half an hour later.

Akie Abe, the widow of the politician dressed in a mourning kimono, was greeted by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Japanese Cabinet Secretary General Hirokazu Matsuno, and former Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, among other representatives of the Japanese government. Who is Shinzo Abe’s younger brother?

At that moment, when the ashes were brought to the martial arts hall, the first of 19 empty volleys of the artillery crew of the country’s self-defense forces was fired. A minute’s silence followed. The farewell speech was made especially by Fumio Kishida, the current Prime Minister of Japan, and Yoshihide Suga, the former head of the Japanese government.

About 4,300 guests attended for Shinzo Abe, including 34 state leaders and 14 former heads of state, as well as representatives of the imperial family, including Crown Prince Akishino and his wife.

Security is provided by approximately 20,000 police officers, some from other regions. Major highways in central Tokyo are closed to traffic Monday through Wednesday – any time high-end foreign visitors are in the city.
