Expert: Russia will benefit from the victory of any of the favorites in the presidential election in Brazil

BRAZIL/MOSCOW, 2 October – RIA Novosti. Russia will win in the Brazilian presidential election with the victory of any candidate, whether it’s current president Jair Bolsonaro or former president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, director of the Russian Latin American Institute Dmitry Razumovsky. The Academy of Sciences told RIA Novosti.

“Russia and Brazil are the largest economies comparable in terms of GDP; both have a strong industrial technology sector. We have objective complementarity, both industrially and technologically. And cooperation with Russia objectively satisfies Brazil’s interests, regardless of who is in power. “Any Brazilian leader understands that interacting with Russia is primarily in Brazil’s interest and vice versa. So, in principle, we expect any winning candidate to adhere to these approaches.”

Razumovsky added that Russia has experience of successful cooperation with both Bolsonaro and Lula da Silva. During the reign of the latter (2003-2011) relations between Russia and Brazil reached the highest level of strategic partnership, not only in a bilateral format, but also within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, BRICS, G20. UN Security Council.

“There is this positive baggage of interaction with Lula, we know her as a politician, we understand her and we know her approaches. In principle, if she comes to power, if she returns to power, we can expect that it will happen to some extent. Razumovsky said that the cooperation plan in the 2000s, but of course with some changes He said it should be a repetition of this format.

“It was possible to maintain almost the entire volume of cooperation with Bolsonaro, to convince him of mutual benefit … Well, the fact that there was more than really close friendship last year, especially after Bolsonaro’s visit to Russia in February. “The relations are well known… So we can expect this line and form of cooperation to continue if Bolsonaro stays in his post,” he said.

“I can expect and assume that both results will be positive for Russia. And this, in general, is a very favorable situation for us. So, there is no particular risk of worsening, undoing relations,” Razumovsky said.
