Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan discussed the solution of the Karabakh conflict and relations with Azerbaijan with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Toivo Klaar on the crisis in Georgia, in Geneva, reported In the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
“The solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan were discussed at the meeting,” the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
It was noted that Mirzoyan described the “removal of the consequences of the latest aggression of Azerbaijan against Armenia” as an obligation, and particularly emphasized the “necessity of the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign lands of Armenia and the immediate release of the Armenians”. Armenian prisoners of war illegally held in Azerbaijan and “unconditional observance of the ceasefire”.
“Mirzoyan strongly condemns gross violations of international law and war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces, in particular the deliberate bombing of the civilian population and infrastructure, the inhuman torture and extrajudicial execution of Armenian prisoners of war, and the perpetrators will be held accountable, including the implementation of Sanctions,” it said.
On the night of September 13, hostilities broke out on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, and the parties accused each other of initiating violence. Yerevan noted that the Azerbaijani army opened fire on the border areas of Armenia – Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, Syunik regions (connecting Armenia with Iran) with artillery and unmanned aerial vehicles. Thanks to Russian efforts, a ceasefire was achieved on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including after the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the head of the Federation Council international committee, Grigory Karasin, told RIA Novosti. and the work of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The CSTO Collective Security Council agreed to send a delegation to Armenia under the chairmanship of Stanislav Zas, the Secretary General of the organization.
