UN source: US and allies urge countries to support anti-referendum resolution
UN, 5 October – RIA Novosti. The United States and its partners are actively persuading countries to support the Western resolution that does not recognize the results of the referendums in the LPR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, a source from the delegations told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the United States and Albania voted in the UN Security Council a resolution not recognizing referendums and urged all countries, international organizations and specialized bodies not to recognize “changes in the status of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine.” The text also included a call not to recognize the accession of the four regions to the Russian Federation. In addition, Moscow was asked to immediately withdraw its forces from Ukraine. Moscow vetoed this document. Now the West wants a similar project to be accepted at the UN General Assembly (where the veto didn’t work).
Meanwhile, according to another UN source, “Russia is proposing to hold a secret ballot on the Western draft resolution that would reduce the number of countries that support it.”
The draft resolution expresses “devotion to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”, with Moscow allegedly condemned for “organizing referendums” and “annexing” the DPR, LPR, Kherson region and Zaporozhye.
Now, on the initiative of Albania and Ukraine, on October 10, in connection with the past referendums, an emergency special session of the General Assembly will be opened. In this process, a decision on the Western resolution is expected to be made.
