Foreign Ministry: Russia calls on UN countries to accept a new reality after the results of past referendums
UN, 6 October – RIA Novosti. At the meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Head of the Russian delegation Konstantin Vorontsov said that Russia urged the UN countries to accept the new reality about the referendums held in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
“International observers – including from Italy, Germany, Venezuela, Latvia and other countries – a total of more than 130 people who followed the course of the referendums considered the results legitimate. We urge UN member states to accept the new inevitable reality dictated by life itself and based on the free will of the people,” said Vorontsov.
According to him, “Whether the West wants it or not, it will find its true path.”
Referendums on the entry of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the Russian Federation were held on September 23-27. According to the results of processing 100% of the votes in the DPR, 99.23% of those who voted to join the Russian Federation, in the LPR – 98.42%, in the Kherson region – 87.05%, in the Zaporozhye region – 93%, 11th.
On September 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke in the Kremlin after the results of the referendum, after which he signed agreements with the heads of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions on the admission of the regions to Russia. Putin signed federal laws on Wednesday confirming the admission of these territories to the Russian Federation.
