Sergey Vladimirovich Surovikin was born in 1966 in Novosibirsk. He graduated from the Omsk Higher All-Arms Command School named after MV Frunze in 1987 and from the Frunze Military Academy in Moscow in 1995 with a gold medal. After that, he served in Tajikistan, where he rose from the commander of the motorized rifle battalion to the chief of staff of the 201st motorized rifle Gatchina division.

In 2002, Surovikin graduated with honors from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. After that, he commanded motorized rifle divisions in Yekaterinburg and Chechnya, from 2005 to 2008 was the first deputy commander of the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army, from April to November 2008 he served as commander. From 2008 to 2010 he headed the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff, then the first deputy commander of the Central Military District, and then the first deputy commander of the Eastern Military District. He became the Eastern Military District Commander in 2013.

He led a group of soldiers in Syria between March-December 2017 and January-April 2019. Since October 31, 2017, he is the head of the Aerospace Forces. In 2021, the President conferred on him the rank of General of the Army. Also, Surovikin commands the Russian group “South” in the special operations zone in Ukraine.

Russia has been conducting military operations in Ukraine since February 24. Vladimir Putin described his mission as “protecting people who have been subjected to eight years of bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime”. According to him, the ultimate goal is the liberation of Donbass and the creation of conditions that guarantee Russia’s security.

During the special operation, the Russian army took control of the Azov part of the Zaporozhye region and the entire Kherson region, occupied such major cities as Kherson, Melitopol and Berdyansk, and cut off Ukraine from the Sea of ​​\u200b\u200bAzov.
