ITV: Scotland chief Sturgeon talks growing separatism over Truss policy
MOSCOW, October 9 – RIA Novosti. After Liz Truss’ ‘disastrous’ first month in office, support for the region’s independence is growing in Scotland. transmits Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Autonomy, told ITV News.
He said Truss had a worse start than other prime ministers and described the new prime minister’s economic policies as “disastrous”.
Sturgeon pointed out that “independence is about being responsible for your own decisions, not about not having decisions like Brexit imposed on you.”
During the election campaign in England, the head of Scotland has already stated that if Truss wins in the final round, it could be a disaster for the country. At the time, Sturgeon accused Truss of campaigning around the priorities of individual members of the Conservative Party. Later, the head of Scotland criticized the new government’s plan to support the UK economy.
A few weeks ago, Kwazi Kwarteng, the new head of the British Treasury, presented a “plan” in Parliament, which amounts to a large-scale tax cut, to support the country’s economy. He announced that the planned increase in corporate tax from 19 percent to 25 percent has been cancelled. After that, the yield on five-year government bonds in the UK rose to 4.6 percent, the highest level since 2008, meaning that the demand for British debt securities decreased. The Truss government has faced a wave of criticism.
