Pentagon announces talks to expand US military presence in Greece
WASHINGTON, October 12 – RIA Novosti. Deputy Defense Secretary Sasha Baker discussed the prospects for expanding the US military presence in Greece with Greek Deputy Minister of National Defense Nikolaos Hardalias. reported Pentagon.
The parties also drew attention to the importance of the Alexandropoulis port for “sustainable access to NATO’s eastern flank and, in particular, assistance to Ukraine”.
Baker thanked Greece for supporting Ukraine and said he favored continuation of Greek-Turkish dialogue to reduce tensions in the region.
Russia had previously sent memos to NATO countries for supplying weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation stated that NATO countries are “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that the pumping of weapons into Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative impact.
