According to the charges leveled against the former president, he is accused of taking bribes of up to $1 million from former Democratic Party leader oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc. Allegedly, this money was asked by the former president to pay the current expenses of the political party “The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova” (PSRM), including the payment of wages to employees of the same political power. This story was called the “bag” because, according to the researchers, a large amount was in a black plastic bag.

The materials of the prosecutor’s office indicate that the bribe was aimed at Dodon, as President of Moldova, to agree with representatives of the preferential conditions of the Russian Federation for Plahotniuc and the Democratic Party, and then he led by forming a ruling coalition with the Socialist Party. Party. As a result of this agreement, the parties would divide the seats in the government and other state institutions among themselves, and Plahotniuc would be exempted from criminal liability in criminal cases brought against him in Russia.

Dodon has been under house arrest since the end of May. The politician does not admit his guilt, he says the case is made up. The former president also insists that the case be considered openly in court.
