State Department: US will impose sanctions on those who assist Iran in supplying arms to Russia
WASHINGTON, October 18 – RIA Novosti. Karen Donfried, Undersecretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the US Department of State, said at a news conference on Tuesday that the US will impose sanctions on anyone who helps Iran supply weapons to Russia.
“The United States will impose sanctions on anyone who helps Iran provide such military support to Russia,” he said.
Emphasizing that this includes Iranian drones, which Washington accuses Tehran of supplying, Donfried added that the United States will continue to impose sanctions on Russia and Iran to limit military trade between both countries.
“This will complicate Iran’s ability to sell such weapons to Russia, and together with our partners in the region, we will counter this Iranian threat,” he said.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani on Monday denied newly emerging information in the American media that Iranian weapons were supplied to the Russian side for use in hostilities in Ukraine.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, stated that the subject of Russia’s purchase of warplanes from Iran was artificially brought to the American media.
