Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjarto: Sanctions against Russia were EU’s worst response
BUDAPEST, 17 November – RIA Novosti. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the normal reaction of European leaders who support sanctions that bring the European economy closer to recession would be their resignation.
According to Szijjarto’s “Say” meeting, “The EU wants new sanctions only to somehow justify its detrimental erroneous decisions, because after the clarification that the sanctions mean a stalemate, those responsible will have to be named.” “No to Sanctions” event. MTI agency.
According to him, “then leaders who supported the sanctions should have stepped out and said that because of them the European economy was approaching recession. That would have been a normal reaction of those who harmed Europe by imposing sanctions.” said the minister.
Emphasizing that the EU gave the “worst response” to Russia’s launch of special operations in Ukraine, Szijjarto urged the citizens of the country to raise their voices against them in national consultations.
“Hungary receives gas from Russia, because without it it is physically impossible to solve the gas supply problem, this is how the infrastructure in this region has developed,” he added.
Earlier on Thursday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said he had filled out an online questionnaire in which he answered negatively to all questions.
Orban said that at the end of September, the country was the first in Europe to initiate national consultations to get citizens’ views on EU sanctions against Russia. He called on all citizens of the country to voice their opinions during the national consultation and thus “end” the rise in energy prices caused by “Brussels’ sanctions on EU countries”. According to him, prices in Europe will drop by half in a few days if the EU changes its sanctions policy.
In Hungary, national consultations will continue until December 9, citizens are asked for their stance on sanctions against energy carriers from the Russian Federation and sanctions, which led to a decrease in the number of Russian tourists and an increase in food prices. The distribution of the questionnaires by mail began on 14 October. On November 15, the Hungarian government launched a website where citizens of the country can fill out the questionnaires online.
The West has stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia through Ukraine, which has led to higher electricity, fuel and food prices in Europe and the US. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West and that the sanctions deal a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main purpose of the West is to make the lives of millions of people worse. The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems that the West has created for itself.
