Salem Reporter: A refugee from Ukraine was beaten in the US after a dispute with the Nazis in his homeland

MOSCOW, November 18 – RIA Novosti. A Ukrainian refugee in the US was beaten after demanding not to call his compatriots Nazis. informs Salem Correspondent Portal.

The incident occurred in the city of Keyser (Oregon) in May, but the victim only reported to the police in early November. According to law enforcement officials, the refugee and his wife arrived in the United States in April, settling in his wife’s uncle’s house. On May 15, several people came to visit them, including Boris Miroshnichenko, a 41-year-old resident of the city of Salem, whom the Ukrainian native did not know before.

After dinner, drunk Miroshnichenko allegedly called Ukrainians Nazis and accompanied statements directed at them with a “homophobic insult”. After that, the victim asked him to “stop calling names”, while his wife’s uncle, who owned the house, demanded that it take care of it on the street, as the children were sleeping in the hut.

As the victim told the police, a relative of his wife suggested that he go to the barn with Miroshnichenko to “set their differences” there. The Ukrainian agreed, hoping for reconciliation, but as he entered, he heard his uncle lock the door and then realized that the conversation would “not be peaceful”.

After entering the hut, Miroshnichenko hit the refugee in the face, after which he fell to the ground, after which the criminal sat on his chest and continued to attack. According to the victim, she received more than ten blows, after which someone picked her up and carried her to her bed.

The victim’s wife said she had to “yell” at a relative to get in. He managed to stop Miroshnichenko only by “holding his cell phone to his eyes.”

At the hospital where the man went after the incident, the doctors diagnosed him with fractures in the eye and nose, he stopped seeing in one eye, and his facial nerve was also damaged. According to the victim, his wife’s uncle threatened to charge the Ukrainian for the fight, which could result in deportation if he went to the police. Relative explained his position with 20 years of friendship with Miroshnichenko. However, the latter paid the medical bills for the refugee’s treatment.

The police, to whom the victim surrendered in early November, was offered to record his telephone conversation with Miroshnichenko, during which he openly admitted responsibility for the injuries, which served as evidence in the case. As a result, Marion District Court, which accused Miroshnichenko of assault and bodily harm to a Ukrainian “because of his national origin”, released him on $50,000 bail.
