The Hague Ambassador Shulgin found similarities between the decision on MH17 and the reaction to the incident in Poland

MOSCOW, November 19 – RIA Novosti. Russia’s Ambassador to the Netherlands Alexander Shulgin drew attention to the similarity of the situation with the court decision regarding MH17, and lastly, the West’s reaction to the missile accident in Poland drew attention: Russia is always blamed for everything.

“The situation is similar to what we see now in connection with this provocation by a rocket that fell on Polish soil. By definition, the Ukrainians are beyond doubt, the Dutch have no desire to judge, to judge … Yet Russia is responsible for everything. They always blame us,” said the diplomat.

On the evening of November 15, rockets fell on Polish territory near the Ukrainian border, killing two. Initially, Warsaw stated that the missiles were Russian-made and that the country had convened a NATO Council. However, Polish President Andrzej Duda later said that the missiles were likely to belong to Ukraine. Polish Ambassador to the EU Andrzej Sados argued that all EU countries hold Russia responsible for the missile incident in Poland. The US also blamed Moscow – Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, said that regardless of the results of the investigation, “Russia is ultimately responsible for this tragic event.” At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that there were no attacks on targets near the Ukrainian-Polish border that day, and that the published photos of some of the wreckage had nothing to do with Russian weapons. The Russian defense ministry noted that photographs from the scene, published in Poland, clearly show that parts of a missile from the Ukrainian S-300 air defense system fell there.

According to the ambassador, Russia always had questions for the joint investigation team (JIT) regarding MH17.

“This group mainly worked at the whim of the Ukrainians. The Ukrainians filled the group with material only useful to them, falsified phone calls, secret witnesses were uncovered. All this was done to divert any suspicion. Solovyov Live broadcast by the Kyiv regime. “As well as removing the responsibility of not closing the airspace over the armed conflict zone for civilian ships,” he said.

“The course of the investigation was extremely one-sided, one-sided and one-sided. There are all signs that the judges are trying to fit the verdict into a predetermined version,” Shulgin said.

On Thursday, a court found Russia’s Igor Girkin, Sergei Dubinsky, and Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko guilty of shooting down plane MH17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014, killing 298 passengers and sentenced to life imprisonment in absentia. At the same time, The Hague District Court found the fourth accused Russian Oleg Pulatov not guilty and rejected the prosecutor’s request for his arrest. Pulatov was released from liability for compensation claims. The remainder will have to pay a total of 16m euros to the families of the victims, as decided by the Dutch court. Although the court expressed the view that Russia had control over the DPR at that time, it did not directly attribute the use of the Buk air defense system against the MH17 flight during the criminal process to Russia.

Vladimir Dzhabarov, the first deputy chairman of the international committee of the Federation Council, told RIA Novosti that the decision of the Hague court on MH17 is legally insignificant for the Russian Federation, and State member Oleg Morozov is expected. United Russia’s Duma expressed the view that the court was biased and that all this was an “information provocation”. In turn, Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, told RIA Novosti that it is impossible to agree with this politicized decision. He noted that Russian experts were not allowed to work with the joint investigative team and that the prosecution did not provide any substantial evidence.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the court in the Netherlands selectively accepted materials related to the MH17 case and neglected the principles of impartial justice.

The case for the downing of aircraft MH17 began on March 9, 2020, in the Netherlands. Prosecutors demanded that all four defendants be sentenced to life imprisonment. The Malaysian Boeing, flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on flight MH17, crashed near Donetsk on 17 July 2014. There were 298 people on board, all dead. Kyiv immediately blamed the militia for the plane crash, but they said they did not have the means to bring the plane down that high. Ukraine refused to provide data from its radars, and the United States did not provide satellite imagery showing the rocket launch moment to the investigation, as they claimed.

The Russian side delivered to the Netherlands not only Russian radar data, but also documents proving that the Buk air defense missile that hit Boeing belonged to Ukraine and was launched from Russia, Russian Deputy Prosecutor General Nikolai Vinnichenko told RIA Novosti. . The territory controlled by Kyiv, but these investigators ignored the information.

At the same time, on the first day of the trial, the prosecutor’s office admitted that it has received and is examining the data of the Russian prosecutor’s office. The investigation was conducted by a joint investigative team (JIT) led by the Dutch Prosecutor General’s Office without the involvement of Russia. The investigation alleges that Boeing was shot down from the area controlled by the militia from the Buk anti-aircraft missile system, belonging to the 53rd anti-aircraft missile brigade of the RF Armed Forces, from Kursk.

The prosecution line was built solely on the testimonies of anonymous witnesses. The defense of the Russian defendant Pulatov in the case said this made it difficult to assess the credibility of his statements, but the Dutch prosecutor’s office insisted that anonymity was necessary for security reasons.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated from the very beginning that the accusations that Russia was involved in the Boeing crash were unfounded and regrettable, and that the investigation was biased and one-sided. It is full of double standards, according to the head of the department, Sergei Lavrov.
