Voting for the presidential elections in Kazakhstan ended, the polls closed
ASTANA, November 20 – RIA Novosti. For the presidential elections in Kazakhstan, the polls were closed across the country.
At 18:00 Moscow time, the polls were closed in five regions: West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Aktobe, Kyzylorda and Mangystau regions. Voting in the main part of the republic ended an hour ago – at 17:00 Moscow time.
As previously reported by MSK, turnout in the country was 69.31 percent as of 17:00 Moscow time.
Azamat Sargazin, Head of the Department of the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, noted that the election preparations and voting took place in a calm environment in general.
Early presidential elections in Kazakhstan are held in accordance with the updated constitution. The head of state is elected for a seven-year term without the right to be reelected. Six candidates are vying for the summit, including incumbent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The presidential race was also nominated by economist Meiram Kazhyken (“Amanat” union union), chairman of the Republican Farmers Association Zhiguli Dairabaev (representing the “Auyl” party), opposition National representative Social Democratic Party Nurlan Auesbaev, human rights activist Saltanat Tursynbekova (“Kazakh mothers”) – the way to tradition”) and public figure Karakat Abden, nominated by the National Alliance of Professional Social Workers.
