Blaszczak: The number of Poland’s regional defense troops exceeded 35 thousand people
WARSAW, 21 November – RIA Novosti. The number of troops for the territorial defense of Poland (WOT) has exceeded 35 thousand people, reported Polish Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak.
Blaszczak on Twitter, “The Regional Defense Forces exceeded 35,000 soldiers! This is an important step towards acquiring the operational capabilities of the youngest branch of the Polish armed forces.”
Founded in 2017, WOT’s mission is to protect and support local residents, assist rescue services in natural disasters and other accidents, support operational troops, and perform the non-military portion of crisis management duties in the Department of Defense.
In October, the Polish Ministry of Defense reported that the strength of the Polish army as a whole had increased to 160,000. This number includes both professional soldiers and representatives of regional defense, as well as volunteer military service, as well as students of military universities. The recently passed Law on National Defense stipulates that the Polish army be increased to 250,000 professional soldiers and 50,000 regional defense units.
