Earlier, EFE reported that Milanes died at the age of 77 after staying in hospital for more than a week in Madrid, where he has lived since 2017.

“Pablo passed away, we read, waking up in Russia Tuesday morning and comes with sad news. One of our greatest musicians is gone. A voice inextricably linked with the music of our generation. My condolences to his widow and children and Cuba,” the Cuban President wrote. on Twitter.

The “Nueva Trova” music movement arose in the early 60s-70s of the last century and combined traditional “trova” (author’s song) motifs, elements of jazz, rock and pop music, as well as the garde aesthetics of avant-garde and revolutionary movements.

Diaz-Canel arrived in Moscow on a working visit on Saturday evening. The program includes meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and participation in the opening of the monument erected in memory of the leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro.
