US Supreme Court allows former President Trump’s tax returns to be submitted to Congress
WASHINGTON, November 22 – RIA Novosti. The US Supreme Court allowed former President Donald Trump’s tax returns to be submitted to Congress following the ruling.
Earlier, US Supreme Court President John Roberts reportedly ordered the suspension of submission of Trump’s tax returns to Congress, delaying the enactment of the appeals court’s decision until a full review.
The U.S. Department of Justice has ruled that in 2021 Trump’s tax returns must be turned over to the U.S. House of Representatives Revenue and Expenditure Committee. However, the former president applied to the court to ban the submission of these documents to legislators. Trump justified this by saying he found the transfer of tax returns illegal and dictated by his rivals’ desire for political gain. The former president had refused to make his statements public in different years and on various pretexts. The Parliamentary Budget Committee first applied to the Treasury with the relevant request in 2019.
