Minister Ghentges says Germany is “extremely stressed” due to refugees
MOSCOW, November 24 – RIA Novosti. Germany is in an “extremely stressful situation” due to its refugee situation, in this regard, author Marion Gentges, Minister of Justice of the state of Baden-Württemberg, made the statement of the Die Welt newspaper on the subject.
In a letter to the federal government, he warned that the situation with the housing of IDPs would worsen.
Gentges reminded that Baden-Württemberg accepted 139 thousand refugees from Ukraine, 22 thousand asylum seekers and 3,000 people from other countries within the scope of humanitarian aid.
“With the continued rapid increase in the number of refugees, we as a country, and especially our local governments, will continue to face an extremely stressful situation now and in the future,” the minister said.
Burkhard Jung, the mayor of Leipzig and vice-president of the Association of German Cities, also expressed fears that the number of refugees will rise sharply next winter. “We need to prepare more cities for winter in Ukraine so that we can reduce the number of refugees,” said Jung.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that more than a million refugees from Ukraine have arrived in the country. At the same time, the leader of the opposition Christian Democratic Union party in Germany, Friedrich Merz, used the term “social tourism” in an interview with Bild TV channel, saying that the refugees went “to Germany, back”. To Ukraine, to Germany, to Ukraine again.”
According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, more than seven million refugees from Ukraine arrived in European countries from February 24 to August 30.
