Moldovan police looking for suspects in case of preparation of mass riots
KISINEV, 25 November – RIA Novosti. Moldovan Police informswho searches together with the prosecutor’s office in case of mass uprisings.
Moldovan officials have repeatedly cited the risks of instability and riots by the opposition Shor party, which is organizing anti-government protests. In November, searches were carried out several times in opposition buildings on similar pretexts.
“Currently, employees of the Organized Crime Investigation Department and the Main Criminal Investigation Agency, together with prosecutors, are searching a large number of defendants in a criminal case related to the preparation of a mass riot,” the Police Telegram channel said in a statement. .
The prosecutor’s office stated that searches were carried out in Chisinau and Hincesti.
Police promise to provide details of the investigation once the special operation is complete.
Moldovan authorities have recently tightened control over opposition parties in connection with several months of protests. Protesters are outraged by the unprecedented rise in gas, other energy sources and food prices, as well as high inflation and falling living standards. Protesters accuse authorities of failing to cope with the crisis and point to record inflation reaching 34.62% year-on-year in October over the past 20 years. The country’s leadership has been criticized for its unwillingness to negotiate better gas prices with Russia and for political pressure on opposition representatives.
Moldovan Justice Minister Sergei Litvinenko acknowledged that the opposition Shor party, one of the organizers of the protests, could be declared illegal if proven to receive foreign funding.
