New Statesman: Missile incident in Poland exposes the divide between Zelensky and the West
MOSCOW, November 25 – RIA Novosti. The missile incident in Poland showed the world that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s relationship with his Western allies is far from ideal. New Statesman Cathy Stallard.
The journalist recalled the tense exchange of statements between Zelensky and US President Joe Biden, in which the Ukrainian leader stubbornly insisted that Kiev was not involved.
“The Ukrainian president’s political mistake regarding the missile incident in Poland has plagued Western leaders who are already showing signs of conflict fatigue,” he said.
Stallard also noted that after the Ukrainian missile struck Polish territory, there were new calls to at least reconsider the scale of Kyiv sponsorship.
On the evening of November 15, a Ukrainian rocket crashed into Polish territory near the Ukrainian border, killing two. Thereupon, Warsaw blamed Russia for the incident. Andrzej Duda stated that there is no evidence that the missile is Russian-made, and that it can serve in the Ukrainian air defense.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that there were no attacks on targets close to the Ukrainian-Polish border that day. Experts also concluded that footage from the scene showed parts of a Ukrainian missile for the S-300 complex. In a statement on the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it hoped an impartial investigation and the disclosure of its results would reveal “provocation”.
