Source: Italy is preparing a decision to continue arms supplies to Ukraine in 2023
ROME, 28 November – RIA Novosti. Representatives of the ruling majority parties – “Brothers of Italy”, “Union” and “Forward, Italy” are working on a draft joint parliamentary resolution ensuring the continuation of comprehensive military assistance, including military assistance to Ukraine, in 2023. From sources in the Italian parliament to RIA Novosti.
The resolution on this issue, which has caused serious debate in the Apennines, will be presented in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Previously, the opposition forces – the 5 Star Movement, the centrist parties “Action” and the “Living Italy” association, as well as the alliance of the left and the “greens” sent three separate resolutions to the lower house on this issue. .
At the same time, the deputies of the “Brothers of Italy” and the “Union” presented to the Senate of the Republic an amendment to the decree discussed there on a number of issues not related to Ukraine, which ensures the continuation of arms. Supply to Kiev next year.
As Tgcom24 news channel reported on Monday evening, it is proposed to add the following to the text of the decree: “The authorization of the transfer of military equipment, supplies and equipment in favor of Ukrainian government officials has been extended until 31 December.”
The amendment drew sharp criticism from the left, who accused government parties of forcing the decision to continue supplying arms to Kiev through parliament without proper debate.
Earlier, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto announced his readiness to submit a proposal to the national parliament to continue supplying weapons to Kiev throughout 2023.
In March, the Italian Parliament approved a government decree providing for various assistance to Ukraine, including the supply of weapons. In order for this document, which caused mixed reviews by the public and some parliamentarians, to pass the Senate, the Mario Draghi government had to associate its approval with the vote of confidence in the Council of Ministers. Subsequently, the government passed similar decrees five more times without a vote in parliament, and discussed this issue only in the parliamentary committee on the security of the republic (Copasir), whose meetings were kept secret.
As Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told RIA Novosti, “constant large-scale aid to Kiev” is increasingly “involving Western countries in the conflict on the side of the Kyiv regime.” Speaking at the meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, the head of the department, Sergei Lavrov, said that Western countries that support the Kyiv regime have started to become a party to the conflict. He also noted that any shipment of weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated that pumping weapons into Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
