Yermakov, head of the Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the winter in relations with the United States
MOSCOW, November 30 – RIA Novosti. It is too early to talk about the possibility of a strategic dialogue with the United States: “winter” in relations between countries does not contribute to the relevant processes, said Vladimir Yermakov, Head of the Department of Arms Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In an interview with the ministry, RIA Novosti.
Elizabeth Rud, previously the US Charge d’Affaires in Russia, told RIA Novosti that Washington is committed to arms control and is waiting for an opportunity to restart the dialogue on strategic stability with Moscow, which, according to her, has been interrupted by the situation around Ukraine.
By contrast, Yermakov had previously stated that the United States had to “mature” before a serious discussion on strategic stability.
“There’s not much point in speculating about when such a “ripening” will happen in Washington. I’ll just note that now it’s not just outside the window, but “winter” in our relations with the United States, and as you know, the time of year is not in favor of growth and maturation processes.” said Yermakov.
