FT: North Atlantic Council meets for the first time on Taiwan situation
MOSCOW, 30 November/ Radio Sputnik. North Atlantic Council holds first special meeting on ‘Taiwan issue’ author The Financial Times cites sources familiar with the situation.
It was noted that this issue has also been discussed in previous meetings of the council, but the meeting in September was devoted to discussing the situation around Taiwan for the first time.
Ambassadors of NATO countries at the meeting discussed intelligence about the alleged threat to Taiwan, according to the source. The diplomats also touched upon the consequences for the alliance members of any conflict around the island.
Also, according to the Financial Times, the ambassadors discussed options to inform Beijing about the possible consequences in the event of hostilities.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that the charter of the Chinese Communist Party would provide mechanisms to counter separatist sentiments in Taiwan.
