Kirby: US will not tie everyone’s hands by recognizing Russia as a “terrorist state”
WASHINGTON, November 30 – RIA Novosti. John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the White House National Security Council, said the United States would not recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism, otherwise it would tie the hands of the international community to seek ways to de-escalate tensions.
“We have considered this issue and we still do not believe that such recognition will meet our needs in the context of Ukraine and the needs of our allies and partners,” Kirby told reporters.
NGOs said such recognition would make it difficult to deliver humanitarian aid to Ukrainians. “Also, frankly, it could tie up the international community,” Kirby said.
According to him, “when and if” the situation around Ukraine is resolved, such recognition will fail in the context of the flexibility to find ways to de-escalate tensions. “We are still not committed to the idea of such an appointment, our policy on this issue has not changed,” he said.
