Spain sent 11 national police officers to Ukraine

MOSCOW, December 2 – RIA Novosti. The Spanish Interior Ministry said that a group of 11 members of the Spanish National Police and Civil Guard arrived in Ukraine to participate in the investigation of possible war crimes.

As noted, on November 2, four people from the advance group arrived in Ukraine and met in Kiev with representatives of the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office to establish a framework for cooperation and determine their fields of work.

“Currently in Ukraine, the group consists of 11 national police and the Civil Guard, coordinated by a commander and a senior inspector,” the ministry’s official website states.

Spanish Foreign Minister Fernando Grande-Marlasca met on Thursday at Madrid airport with a group of 11 members of the national police and Civil Guard before flying to Ukraine, the ministry said.

Earlier, the European Commission made an attempt to create a special international tribunal for Ukraine under the auspices of the UN. Gennady Gatilov, Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Headquarters in Geneva, told RIA Novosti that the creation of a mechanism under the auspices of the UN requires the approval of the UN Security Council, and without it the proposed EU “Ukrainian court” is impossible. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia categorically denies Kiev’s accusations of war crimes on the territory of Ukraine. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Paris has started working with European and Ukrainian partners to create a special tribunal to investigate Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Peskov stated that attempts by the West to create a “court” for Ukraine would not be legitimate, accepted and would be condemned.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin described his goal as “protecting people who have been subjected to eight years of bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime.” For this, according to him, it is planned to “disarm and demilitarize Ukraine” so that all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass are brought to justice.
