MOSCOW, December 8 – RIA Novosti. The Security Service of Ukraine said that checks were carried out as part of counterintelligence activities on the territory and facilities of three monasteries of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the Zhytomyr region.

“In the Zhytomyr region, the SBU’s security measures (counterintelligence) continue at the facilities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The events are held this time in the Korostensky district,” the SBU’s office in the Zhytomyr region wrote in a social media post. .

According to the agency, checks are being carried out on the building and territory of the female stauropegic monastery, the male monastery of the diocese of Ovruch-Korosten, the Skete of the monastery in honor of Athos Saint Silouan.

“Law enforcement, together with representatives of religious organizations, inspect the site and buildings to detect persons who may engage in illegal activities and objects whose circulation is prohibited on the territory of Ukraine,” the SBU said.

On November 22, the Security Service of Ukraine carried out “counterintelligence activities” on the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and two monasteries and the Sarny diocese of the canonical UOC in the Rivne region. According to Metropolitan Anthony, more than 50 people were questioned and “pro-Russian literature” was found, these were Easter messages and condemning books from the Moscow Patriarch Kirill and All Rus, sent to all dioceses of the Moscow Patriarchate. Ukrainian schismatic. The SBU also conducted inspections at UOC’s facilities in the Poltava, Zhytomyr, Rivne and Transcarpathian regions of Ukraine.

Local authorities in different regions of Ukraine periodically take decisions to ban the activities of the UOC. In particular, the deputies of the Lviv Regional Council decided to ban the activities of the UOC in the region.

Since the beginning of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, attacks by Ukrainian nationalists on churches, clergy and believers in the canonical UOC have become more frequent.
