Junge Welt: US withdrawing from strategically important Persian Gulf
MOSCOW, December 9 – RIA Novosti. The US is losing territory to China in the hydrocarbon-rich Persian Gulf. author Joerg Kronauer is a columnist for the German newspaper Junge Welt.
According to the author, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other Arab states in the region intend to significantly intensify their foreign policies. He said they were looking for new partners to cooperate with, especially after the US decided to focus on competing with China.
Riyadh and Abu Dhabi understand that sooner or later they will have to face Iran on their own without the active support of Washington. To do this, the columnist writes, they are building relationships with Beijing, which is energetically spreading its political and economic influence in the Middle East region.
“Now, where Washington is reducing its influence, Beijing takes immediate action. “The end of unrivaled US hegemony in the Persian Gulf marks a shift in the balance of power of historical scale,” said Cronauer.
Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping, who came to Riyadh for an official visit, said that Beijing prioritizes developing relations with Saudi Arabia in its diplomacy in the Middle East. He also announced that China is ready to increase the scale of oil trade with the kingdom and implement major joint projects in the energy sector.
