WP: Zelensky was going to visit the USA in the summer but could not go for security reasons
MOSCOW, December 21 – RIA Novosti. Volodymyr Zelensky was looking for an opportunity to travel to Washington in the summer, but was unable to do so for security reasons, the newspaper wrote on Wednesday. Washington Post with reference to a source close to it.
Earlier, the White House confirmed that Zelensky will visit Washington on Wednesday. Zelensky also tweeted that he went to the US to meet with US President Joe Biden.
“The president of Ukraine has been looking for opportunities to travel to Washington since the summer … The main issue along the way was security,” the publication says.
A source close to Zelensky’s office also said that his wife, Elena, would not go to the United States with him.
A senior White House official told reporters earlier that Biden will unveil a new $2 billion military aid package to Ukraine, including Patriot air defense systems, during Zelensky’s visit.
