Turkish Foreign Ministry: Country will not allow interests in the Eastern Mediterranean to be ignored

ANKARA, 23 December – RIA Novosti. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tancu Bilgich said that Ankara will not allow the interests in the Eastern Mediterranean to be ignored, and that no country, company or ship will allow the exploration and production of energy resources on the Turkish shelf without permission. The representative of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the escalation of the situation is not in the interests of any of the parties.

Bilgich added that this “must be understood not only by the countries in the region, but also by third parties whose support the Greek Cypriot community is trying to rely on”.

Turkey will continue with all its determination to defend both its own rights and the rights of the TRNC in the Eastern Mediterranean, and will continue to support the TRNC’s hydrocarbon exploration activities to be carried out in the coming period.
