Serbian Ministry of Defense: President ordered to make the army combat ready at the highest level
MOSCOW, December 27 – RIA Novosti. Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vučevic said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić had ordered the armed forces to be placed on high alert.
The portal of the Serbian media organ Vecherne Novosti also reported that the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo authorities have prepared their forces for a full-blown battle.
Tensions continue in Kosovo and Metohija. In the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, police in December arrested several police officers in the north on suspicion of war crimes and terrorism during the 1998-1999 conflict. On December 10, Kosovo Serbs therefore set up barricades and are on duty on the highways in the north of the region.
The situation at the barricades in the municipalities of Leposavić, Zvecan and Zubin Potok remains peaceful, with local Serbs standing guard at night in tents. During the day, local women also go up to the barricades. In the Serbian part of social networks, videos are distributed about the movement of military equipment in the municipality of Raska and the flight of Mi-35 helicopters of the country’s Air Force.
Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, on 15 December submitted Pristina’s application for EU membership to the Czech Republic, which chairs the Council of the European Union. In response, the Serbian Ministry of Defense conveyed to the command of the NATO KFOR mission a request to send a limited contingent of up to 1,000 Serbian police and military forces to Kosovo and Metohija in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 1244. countries – Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia and Romania – do not recognize Kosovo.
