Indonesian President Widodo announces the lifting of all restrictions caused by COVID-19
MOSCOW, December 30 – RIA Novosti. Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced that all restrictions on public activities previously imposed in the country due to the COVID-19 outbreak have been lifted.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has been brought under control in the last few months, 1.7 cases per 1 million people per day as of December 27, 2022,” Widodo said in a speech posted on YouTube by the presidential secretariat. He added that after 10 months of negotiations, the country’s authorities decided to completely lift all public restrictions.
Widodo declared the COVID-19 outbreak a “national disaster” on April 13, 2020. In this context, Indonesia has introduced a series of social restrictions, such as mandatory quarantine after returning from abroad.
Nearly seven million cases of coronavirus have been reported in Indonesia in two years. A total of 160,583 people died from the disease.
