Ambassador: Indonesia invites investors from Russia to participate in the construction of a new capital
MOSCOW, January 5 – RIA Novosti. Indonesia’s Ambassador to Moscow, Jose Antonio Morato Tavares, told RIA Novosti that Indonesia invites investors from Russia to participate in the construction of the new capital Nusantara on the island of Kalimantan.
“Indonesia welcomes investors from Russia who wish to participate in the construction of a new capital city on the island of Kalimantan. We are now in the process of building a city – clearing land for future construction,” said the ambassador.
He noted that the concept of the capital of the future is to build a green city.
Ambassador, “There are a lot of forests and trees in Kalimantan, we do not want to destroy nature, but we want to build a new city in the bosom of nature. And Russian investors can help us in this regard.”
He also invited Russian universities to participate in the project of a university branch in the new capital.
“We want to create a smart city project, a technological hub that will develop technologies for the new capital,” said the ambassador.
He noted that they show great interest in learning the Russian language in Indonesia, and that many universities have faculties that teach Russian as a foreign language.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced plans to relocate the country’s capital in 2019. The main reason was the congestion of the current capital, Jakarta. In addition, the island of Java, on which it is located, is located in a seismically active region. Also, Jakarta is sinking 25 centimeters below sea level each year, and parts of it may be submerged in a few decades. The island of Kalimantan, where Nusantara is located, is more prosperous in this respect.
