EC announces no new data on the investigation of terrorist attacks in Nord Stream

BRUSSELS, January 5 – RIA Novosti. EC spokesperson Dana Spinant said at a briefing in Brussels that a national investigation into the sabotage at Nord Stream is underway and the European Commission has no new data on these events.

Answering the questions of the journalists, the Minister said, “An investigation is being carried out at the national level… From our point of view, we cannot add anything new to these events at the moment.” said.

He added that the EC can only “comment on the steps we have taken to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure and the steps we have taken to strengthen the protection of our critical infrastructure in the EU after these events”.

“We have been informed by the Swedish authorities that the destruction of gas pipelines was the result of sabotage, but investigations are ongoing in Sweden, Denmark and Germany. As you know, these investigations are the responsibility of the member states.”

The attacks took place on September 26 simultaneously on Russia’s two gas export pipelines to Europe: Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2. Germany, Denmark and Sweden do not exclude targeted sabotage. Nord Stream operator Nord Stream AG reported that the state of emergency for gas pipelines is unprecedented and it is impossible to predict the repair time. The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation filed a lawsuit regarding the international terrorist act after the damage to the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines. On October 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin reported that Gazprom was allowed to inspect the Nord Stream explosion site, and Alexei Miller, the head of the company, briefed him on the survey. Putin also said that the explosion in the Nord Stream gas pipeline was a blatant terrorist attack.
