State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dobynda: neutrality is against the national interests of Moldova

Chisinau, 18 – RIA Novosti. State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vyacheslav Dobynda said that the Moldovan government refuses to support the initiative for permanent neutrality of the republic, as it is contrary to the national interests and can isolate the country internationally.

At the end of March, the opposition bloc “Communists and Socialists” wanted to make a draft law on the permanent neutrality of Moldova, making it the basis of the foreign policy of the republic. On Wednesday, in an interview with the Milanese newspaper Corriere della Sera, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa said Moldova intends to preserve its status as a neutral state and considers the possibility of armed conflict to spill over into the republic’s territory as a “distant danger”. “

“The analysis showed that the permanent neutrality bill could affect the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity and limit the possibilities for security system and national defense reform. Preconditions are being created for the state to isolate internationally against national interests. We consider it impossible to approve the bill in its current form,” said Dobynda. .

According to him, the right to neutrality does not mean additional conditions that will limit the foreign policy of the country. In addition, the bill provided for the prohibition of the Moldovan army from participating in UN peacekeeping missions.

The consideration of the initiative by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was unanimously supported by all members of the government. At the same time, Dobynda does not exclude that such a project may be approved in the future, but it is necessary to conduct a large-scale analysis, take into account all possible consequences and consult with experts.

According to Moldova’s constitution, the republic has a neutral status, but the country has been cooperating with NATO since 1994 as part of its individual partnership plan.
