“The Venezuelan radical opposition, with the support and incitement of Western sponsors, continued its attempts to breathe new life into the work of the “parallel National Assembly” to retain access, one way or another, to the levers of the government. At the same time, it was right and sensible to disband the “interim government” led by Guaido. a decision was made, which confirms what we have been talking about for a long time and again, namely, that there are no legal grounds for the execution of parallel power structures: even the ideological inspirations in Washington, where they “try to keep the Guaido project alive”, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the “circus of dual power” continues in Venezuela.

“Obviously, the tasks of the curators of the “color revolution” that did not take place in Venezuela remain the same … The ultimate purpose of this farce is not hidden – to maintain control over the financial resources of the Venezuelan state, which is under foreign jurisdiction. At the same time, the ministry reaffirmed its desire to continue to strengthen relations with friendly Venezuela and to develop close mutually beneficial cooperation with this country, which will continue to be Russia’s key strategic partner.

Mass protests broke out in Venezuela in early 2019 against President Nicolas Maduro, shortly after he was sworn in. Juan Guaido, head of the opposition-controlled National Assembly, has illegally declared himself interim president. A number of Western countries, especially the USA, declared that they recognized Guaido. In response, Maduro described the speaker of parliament as a puppet of the United States. Russia, China, Turkey and some other countries supported Maduro as a legitimate president.
