Taliban political office* denies media reports of new restrictions on women
DOHA, January 10 – RIA Novosti. The political office of the Taliban* in Qatar denied media reports of new restrictions on women in Afghanistan, in particular the ban on working in stores, political office head Suhel Shaheen told reporters.
Earlier, Al Arabiya TV channel, citing sources, reported that the government established by the Taliban in Afghanistan set a ten-day period for the closure of women’s beauty salons in the country and prohibited women from working in shopping malls.
“This information is unreliable, the relevant structures refute this statement,” Shahin said.
Since the Taliban* came to power in Afghanistan, women’s rights in that country have been severely curtailed, especially recently they have been banned from attending classes in higher education institutions.
